Many types of training teach a method of using a stick, that simulates a weapon and the dog being hit by this stick by the helper/agitator.
When you train a dog this way you are teaching it that’s it’s o.k. to get hit by this stick (simulated weapon)
That is not o.k.
The dog should be taking out the weaponed
and not hanging on the free hand and getting the hell beat out of it.You’re asking him to take the free hand when in real life
the suspect may have a handgun or another type of weapon. The suspect may then be able to shoot or injure the dog and perhaps shoot or injure you.
That’s not the way it should be.
The weaponed hand should be taken immediately.
You have to put some importance on that weapon.
Are you not going to better off knowing that if you send your dog he will take the weaponed hand?
When you know that you have no other choice but to send your dog are you confident that your dog can do the job? Don't be fooled into thinking that a sporting dog will protect you.
