The sporting field has infiltrated the working
world so deeply that most handlers and their K-9's trained this way are dysfunctional.
This training is not pragmatic to real life application
It’s o.k. on the sporting field. No one is going to get killed out there.
You may get points; you may
get trophies and ribbons.
You can go
back home and drink beer and brag of your dogs accomplishments by saying, "My dog did all right.” and showing off the trophies and ribbons that have been won.
It will not help you, for instance, back at the station while you are saying, “My dog has been killed, or I've lost my best friend.”
How many people still see any sense in letting your dog hit a sleeve while being hit
with a stick in training? Honestly!
Because it has been done for so many years does this make it right?
If I said to you it proves courage in a dog,
would you believe that?
Can you see any
courage in that? How many people still see
courage in that?
At Baden K-9 we train for real life not for ribbons and trophies. 02/07/02
